Who can be represented by your law firm?

Our firm only represents women! Our clients live primarily in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton and Newport News although we are fully capable of representing women in other parts of the Commonwealth of Virginia as well.

What kinds of cases do you take?

We represent women in counseling, negotiating, mediating and litigating premarital, marital, separation and reconciliation agreements, divorces, child support, spousal support, child custody and visitation matters. The Firm has been extensively involved in child custody disputes, military divorces and complex property issues.

How do I know you are qualified to represent me?

The attorneys of our law firm have met with, counseled, and successfully represented thousands of women in their divorces. These women  relied upon our attorneys to help them win custody, child support, spousal support, pension benefits and property settlements. Because representing women only in divorce is the passion and the foundation of our law firm, all of our attorneys have earned the respect of judges, lawyers, and most importantly, their clients. Each of our attorneys is an experienced, trial-tested divorce lawyer. This experience comes from working every day on divorce cases. In one year each of our attorneys is involved in more divorce cases on behalf of women than most other attorneys handle in five years of full time general practice. This is because, unlike most other legal firms, our practice is devoted to representing only women in divorce. Our goals are very simple. We will skillfully and aggressively represent our clients and help them to obtain their entitlements under the divorce laws of Virginia.

Why do you only represent  women?

We have found that women face unique challenges in divorce and custody litigation.  By focusing our practice on the issues faced by women, and by our lobbying efforts in the Virginia legislation in an attempt to make Virginia laws more fair to women, we are best able to represent our clients with the focus and integrity in which we pride ourselves.

Do you offer a free initial consultation?

No, we do not. Unlike personal injury attorneys who offer free consultations in search of high-dollar contingency cases, domestic relations attorneys work for hourly fees. Our initial consultation is $150, which is less than each attorney's usual hourly rate.  In that hour you get our full attention, and your questions answered.  We are not “sizing you up” for a percentage of a verdict.  We also offer a 3 hour seminar, "What Women Need to Know About Divorce", for only $30.

What do I need to do to get started?

That depends partly on whether you are initiating a first-time case or are in the midst of an on-going one. We recommend to our new clients initiating a first-time action that they:

  • attend one of our "What Women Need to Know About Divorce" seminars
  • write a detailed marital and family history
  • prepare a detailed financial summary
  • obtain retirement plan information
  • decide which assets you desire to keep and which you would be willing to give up
  • pay bills and credit cards from joint accounts before separation
  • secure keys to any safety deposit boxes
  • prepare a spending history and budget
  • set aside cash reserves for post separation
  • apply for credit cards in your name
  • close joint credit cards after separation

Clients in the heat of the fray can do as much of the above as they deem appropriate. They also need to bring copies of all court orders and petitions pertaining to their case.
